Earlier in August, Gulraiz Khan presented a multi-head convolutional neural network at the 29th International Conference on Automation and Computing (ICAC) in Sunderland. I am thrilled to announce that the conference paper is now online. For a computer scientist like Gulraiz, a conference paper is at least equivalent to a journal article. Professor Kevin Pimbblet and I, as his primary and secondary PhD supervisors respectively, are very proud of him. Please find the paper here: link.

I met my very first personal tutees today. A memorable moment.
16/01/2023
Today, I started my lectureship (assistant professorship) at the University of Hull: my first independent academic position. I am a part of the Centre of Excellence for Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Modelling.
Now that I hold a position that makes me a potential role model for young people, I will pay more attention to my behaviour. Partly due to autism, I have experienced meltdowns triggered by overwhelming situations, especially flashbacks of injustices. During these episodes, I might have lost behavioural control. I certainly have done and said things that I regret, such as name-calling and swearing. Of course, my being autistic is not an excuse for my past acts and words, but now that I know better and have the necessary coping mechanisms, I can manage an overwhelming situation more effectively. Starting from today, I will think twice before communicating my thoughts.
13/01/2023
Yesterday, I had my last day at the University of Sheffield. In the last four years, I had a great time doing cutting-edge research within a European project and supervising various exploratory projects. I am grateful to Dr Dawn Walker for this opportunity.

I now volunteer as a mentor for Imperial College Careers Service's Alumni Mentoring Scheme. It aims to support the development of student employability through gaining an informed career insight and empowering students to achieve their career aims. It also seeks to advance diversity and inclusion by encouraging the networking propensity of students from underrepresented groups.
Students and mentors work together across the academic year with a minimum of five points of engagement.
I specialise in mentoring students interested in the quantitative life sciences, BAME students, international students, first-generation immigrants, victims of linguistic oppression, and neurodivergents. In this cycle, I am working with three undergraduate students.
